New Summer Staple--Wrigley Raglan

Are you looking for a great raglan shirt pattern? Well look no further! The newly released Wrigley Raglan from Love Notions is your one stop shop that has the raglan covered.

 It comes in a huge range of sizes, has 3 different collar options (crew, split or hooded), has 3 different lengths (shirt, tunic or dress) and has plus sizes as separate sizes.  It really  does cover it all!

 I was part of the testing and believe me, this one is a great final product. Both of my daughters (I couldn't stop at just one) love their shirts. They say they fit super well and are super comfortable.  There are more of these in our future.  This pattern is also a great one for upcycling those old large t-shirts (some great examples in the pattern pictures). Clara wants one with the Cardinals logo on it to where to school on Card's Day...now to find a shirt at a thrift store.  

 The other nice thing is the feminine fit of the shirt.  This is a shirt for girls and the high/low hem is a nice feature to that. 

By adding some length to the shirt, I also made 2 night shirts for my night gown loving daughter.

Our dog Max kept insisting on being in the pictures.

So now we have a new Summer staple, with many more of these to come.

The pink stripes and polka dots was her choice. The navy is from a stash I inherited from somewhere and it is super soft, so was perfect for pjs.

Zoe Raglan Top

Back last year I had the chance to test the Zoe top by Liola Patterns and I just realized that I never blogged about it. Something to do with kids starting school and life getting crazy. So here it is...

It is a great and easy sew and oh so comfortable. I loved the curved hem line and the pleats on the sleeve...just something a little unique and different for your basic raglan. I also loved that the sleeves and hem line were long enough without me having to alter it...something nice for this long torsoed/long armed gal. It however, would be rather easy to make it without the pleats if you want just a basic shirt.  Really if you are looking for an easy to follow pattern for a basic comfortable shirt, you should check out the Zoe.

Omni Family Blog Tour

It was a family affair with the making of the Omni Tempore by Sofilantjes Patterns.
I went a little crazy in the making of them. Not only did I get these 4 done (sizes Adult Medium, Adult Small, size 10 and size 12), but I managed to get 2 12 month sized ones done as well and shipped off as baby presents for my newest niece and nephew.

This pattern is an amazingly quick and easy sew...from start to finish of the sewing less than an hour (especially by my 6th one:)

These are just some cute pants that I made to go with the boy version, following this tutorial.

So here are my finished versions...they all really love them and they are quite comfy.
I said more about them over at Sew Cool for the Tween Scene as well.

Sophia's is a size 12, shawl collar, with kangaroo pocket, cuffs and waistband all made from purple micro fleece.

Clara's is a size 10, with shawl collar, kangaroo pocket and cuffs made out of super soft and comfy micro fleece...I loved her fabric.

Ethan's is an Adult Small, hooded with cuffs...he said he kind of wished his was roomier. The fit is more like that of a thick shirt than a sports sweatshirt.

For mine, I used some of my 'winnings' ( a nice textured knit from Nosh Fabrics) and made an Adult medium with a hood. I agree that the fit is kind of snug. If you want to layer I would go with a size up. But it really is a great pattern and very comfortable...I wore mine all day long.

Ansley Top/Dress Blog Tour

Lucky me, I get to be a part of this Ansley Top/Dress Blog Tour twice. You can see my other look over at Sew Cool.  And can I just say, I love this one a little more and I really like this great pattern!

This pattern is so great because there are SO many options! 2 dress options, 2 top options, 6 sleeves, 3 collars and 3 hems.  And the other great thing is that you get from size 9m to 14...all in one pattern!  It is seriously a great bang for your buck.

I did the high/low hem...which is such a great look with this loose top/dress pattern. I think the only thing I would change is to add an inch or two to the front piece...my girls are just so long in the torso and it hits them just at a weird length there. Oh, and get this, I made the same size for both of them. I'm not sure if they will want to share or not...

I added the pointed collar, which was so easy to add. I did add some top stitching around the collar and placket, which wasn't in the instructions...it's hard to see, but it's there.

And I just made up my own sleeve option...because there weren't enough already:)  No, I just thought the long loose sleeve look would go well with this fabric. I just took the short sleeve option and elongated it to be long enough. Then I just added a casing and elastic at the cuff.

As for the fabric, the floral was from a shirt that I picked up on the sales rack for $2 and the stripe is some light weight woven that I picked up on a random WalMart stop looking for a tiny screw driver set and I just really liked the look of it.

It was rather windy and chilly this morning when I took the pictures...hence the not so happy outside shots and the smiley inside ones.  But I do like the look we put together.

As for the pattern, it's a well written pattern that has the layering print options of not just printing the pieces you need but the sizes as well.

Fall Wardrobe Must Haves

 A couple of weeks ago I had the lucky chance to test the Magnolia Skirt and Hemlock Top designed by Heidi over at Elegance and Elephants.  Just go check out her 'Look Book' for the great Fall patterns she'll be releasing in a matter of days.

First up the Hemlock Top...It's a simple knit top with a lovely little shoulder ruffle...perfect for dressing up or down. Clara loves how comfy it is (and she's excited to have a top to match mom's).

 I loved how it came together so quickly and how Heidi's patterns are so easy to follow.  Clara is already asking for more and since she doesn't have many long sleeve shirts...I'll just have to oblige her.

Now on to the Magnolia Skirt. It's a 6 paneled knit skirt with an elastic casing and it all came together in an hour.  Really a fun hip pattern that has a lot of potential for customization! I had fun alternating the sides of fabric of the knit I used to get a little contrast going.

 Again, it's going to be a great Fall staple as it can be dressed up or down...whatever your fancy. And the best thing about it according to my girls...the twirl factor. What little girl doesn't like a spin-y skirt?

 I knew Sophia would love the skirt and since she fell into the size 9 measurements, I tested the skirt for her as well.  The trendiness as well as the simplicity of it lends itself to the older set as well.  She loves how comfortable it is and is even willing to wear it to middle school...so it must look pretty good too. 

 Heidi will be releasing both patterns this week.  If you want 2 patterns that allow you to get a whole outfit done in a matter of a couple of hours, that have the possibility of dressing up or down, you really should check these out!

 She and I have brainstormed some fun ideas of what you could do to customize it...6 different panels to play with means there is a lot you could do!  

And she is still a girl at heart that loves to twirl.

Sis Boom's Ethan Shirt Flipped

The lovely ladies over at Frances Suzanne are doing their FLIP series again and this month was for a pattern that I've been eyeing for some time.

So with the incentive of a discount code, I bought myself the pattern, Ethan Shirt for Boys by Sis Boom and...

flipped it into something much more girly.

Here is my FLIP of the Ethan Shirt...a collared tunic in a mix of fabrics.

The blue is poplin, with red with white polka dots cotton woven for the pocket and inside the collar stand and then a very soft, cherry printed knit for the tunic skirt and sleeves. The buttons are these really cool vintage ones from my stash.

As for the changes, I made the bodice by the pattern, chopping it off at the chest, just below the pocket placement.

I rounded off the collar, to make it a little more feminine and added some red stitching around the edge before attaching it, for some contrast.

I cut the inside of the collar stand out of some contrasting fabric as well for a fun pop of color.

The big change was adding the 'skirt' and making it tunic length. I made the skirt all one piece and over lapped it in the back. To do this I measured the front and back width, adding the back width in again to get the overlap. Then before I attached it I lettuce ruffled the edge of the knit in red thread and rounded the back corners.

The sleeves are out of the knit as well. I used the sleeve pattern piece and just cut them the length I wanted and lettuce ruffled the edge in red thread. I had originally planned on making a cuff at the upper arm out of the blue and the red, but I just didn't like the way it looked...to busy for a comfy tunic.

This was the first time I sewed a Sis Boom pattern and I was impressed with the way it was written and how the shirt came together. The pattern had some new to me techniques/way of doing things, which was a fun change of pace and I learned something new.

I love how the tunic turned out and Clara loves how comfortable it is. It's perfect to wear with shorts and will be great to wear with leggings in the winter.
