(Thanks for all of your kind words...pity party is over and moving on with some great ideas to come:)
So I've mentioned once or twice how I don't sew much for my boys. They are 14 and 12, so most of it has to do with the practicality of it all. They are growing so stinking fast (my 14 year old grew 6 inches in 4 months) and the effort and cost to make something for them is just not worth it in my mind. Not when places like Goodwill and Target exist and we have friends who happily give us hand-me-downs.
That being said, I do sew for them, just not clothes. Here's an example of something I just had to do for them. They are both Boy Scouts and racking up the merit badges and rank advancements.
I got to happily sew on all of these badges for them. There are women I know, that the thought of having to do this sends them into a cold sweat. Why? Because they never learned how to sew, so they whip out the glue and it all ends up looking kind of tacky.
Sewing is an important skill, even if you are not whipping up an outfit for your darling daughter every week. I think it's very sad that Home Ec is no longer a required class.

You are so right! It is sad that Home Ec is no longer required. But I"m optimistic that the sewing mom community is growing, at least it seems like it is. I cannot wait to pass on my sewing skills to my children....if they're interested. I really hope at least one of them will be! :)
